Students who do not wish to make a commitment to an established degree-granting program of study may apply to the school as nonmatriculating students. Applicants generally fall into one of three categories:
- Recent graduates who desire to complete additional undergraduate course work in preparation for graduate or professional studies or for certification in teaching or other professional areas;
- Persons employed in jobs or professions that require additional training for professional improvement or advancement;
- Individuals who have a desire to develop and explore personal interests or learn more about the programs of study here at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS).
Please Note: F-1 and J-1 visa holders are NOT eligible for nonmatriculating student status and therefore will NOT be admitted to this program.
Students who are admitted can enroll on a full-time (12 or more degree credits) or part-time (fewer than 12 degree credits) basis in existing SEBS courses (on a space availability basis) and receive college credits as a nonmatriculating student. Students may take up to 32 credits in the program. This 32 credit limit is strictly adhered to. After completing 32 credits as a nonmatriculating student, a student who wishes to continue must apply to a degree-granting program as a transfer student, according to the Rutgers University transfer student admissions procedures (See admissions.rutgers.edu for more information). Successful completion of course work by the nonmatriculating student does not guarantee admission as a matriculated student. All credits earned as a nonmatriculating student will be accepted as part of a degree-granting program for successful transfer applicants.
Once a student has been admitted, he/she will be assigned to a faculty adviser who will assist in selecting courses. Final enrollment (registration) in courses will take place on the first day of classes for any given semester after matriculated students have had an opportunity to register.
Students who enroll in this program, either full or part-time, will be required to pay tuition and student fees.
