The role of the faculty sponsor is to help maintain the academic quality and integrity fo the Cooperative Education Program. All academic courses at the university are developed with the expectation that certain objectives will be attained. Cooperative Education is no exception, although the objectives naturally vary with each student, major and placement. Faculty sponsors, with expertise in the students' fields of study, guide learning in a manner similar to that which occurs during supervision of an independent study or honors project. A major component in this process is the development of the Learning Contract. At the completion of each semester of employment, the faculty sponsors evaluate credit-related responsibilities: logs, synthesis papers, projects, and seminars. |
Co-op student Holly Griffiths is visited by her faculty sponsor, Dr. Jim Wohlt, while working at the Six Flags Great Adventure Animal Safari. Now an alumna, she is working with the Live Animal Collection at the Newark Museum, a position she received as a direct result of her co-op education experience. |
