Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have travel insurance when I go abroad?

A. Since accessing medical and emergency assistance can be difficult while traveling abroad, Risk Management in conjunction with the Office of Global Programs, offers free emergency medical assistance to the university traveler abroad via the ACE International Emergency Assistance Program. This insurance covers emergency care only. For more information, contact Risk Management or click on the links below.

Q. So I am covered for medical emergencies if I register with Risk Management. What if I simply need to see a doctor for a non-emergency while I am traveling?

A. For general healthcare coverage while overseas, students and faculty can enroll in the Health Select Overseas Insurance provided by HTH Worldwide Services. (If you are traveling with a Rutgers Study Abroad program you are automatically covered.)

  • Covers any injury or illness up to $100,000
  • There is a $0 deductible for each injury or illness claimed
  • Pre-existing conditions or non-essential services (e.g. dental cleaning, acne treatments, check-ups etc.) are not covered

Rutgers has made this policy available for purchase from HTH Worldwide Services, Inc. for $28 per month per student which will cover you during program dates .

The enrollment roster and the payment must be received by our office at least 2 weeks prior to the trip departure.

Upon enrollment students will receive a confirmation email from HTH along with details to print out an ID card and access HTH Worldwide's online resources.

Please visit Department of Risk Management for more information.

You may contact the Department of Risk Management and Insurance with any questions about enrollment or HTH Worldwide Inc. at 1-888-350-2002 with questions about coverage.
