New Brunswick, NJ--Brad Hillman has been appointed associate director for research at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), effective July 1st. Hillman is a professor of plant pathology at Rutgers' Cook College.

As associate director for research, Hillman's duties will include strategic leadership and oversight of NJAES' research portfolio, supervision of staff assigned to the research office, and representation of the NJAES at local, state, and national levels. Reporting to and working closely with Mark Robson, who has accepted an appointment as director of the NJAES beginning September 1, Hillman will design and implement both competitive and commissioned research programs to achieve NJAES goals and will coordinate research with Extension activities. He will also work closely with the deans for research and graduate programs at the various Rutgers schools to ensure the realization of research objectives by faculty who receive funding from the NJAES.

"This new position at NJAES is part of an ongoing commitment to invigorate and stimulate research that responds to and anticipates the needs of our state-wide constituents," said Bob Goodman, executive dean of agriculture and natural resources at Rutgers and executive director of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. "As a dedicated and committed faculty member, Brad will lead NJAES' research efforts with the innovation and excellence that have been the hallmarks of his career."

Hillman has directed both the Plant Pathology and Plant Biology Graduate Programs, and has acted as vice-chair of the Department of Plant Pathology. He will assume a similar role as vice-chair of the Department of Plant Biology and Pathology in addition to serving as associate director for research.

Hillman has been a faculty member at Cook College since 1989. In his nearly two decades here, he has made significant contributions in research and teaching. He has been recognized with the Rutgers University Presidential Board of Trustees Fellowship for Scholarly Excellence and the Cook College/NJAES Research Excellence Award. Hillman is active in a number of professional associations and has served as a member or chair of numerous college and university committees, among them the Cook College Planning Committee and the University Senate.
