Student Requirements by Class Year

First-Year Students

  • Participate in the Academic Skills Seminar I & II.
  • Fall semester: participate in Critical Thinking Seminar.
  • Fall and Spring semesters: students must meet three times per month, individually or in small groups with assigned counselor to:
    • Discuss/review summer assessments.
    • Complete additional assessment instruments, as needed, to identify and address issues impeding academic performance.
    • Discuss curriculum planning.
    • Discuss career counseling.
    • Complete pre-registration for spring and fall semesters.
    • Participate in the Office of Special Program: Academic Support Program.
  • First year students are required to attend a minimum of two hours of academic support per week.
  • Attend a minimum of two evening workshops or lectures sponsored by OSP.
  • Submit FAFSA to counselor by the deadline of March 15.
  • Read OSP newsletter regularly.

Second-Year Students

  • Maintain satisfactory academic standing, OR
  • Participate in the Academic Skills V & VI for probation and re-admit students, if necessary.
  • Participate in Academic Support Program, AND
  • Participate in Seminar in Academic Skills III & IV.
  • Complete pre-registration for Spring and Fall semesters.
  • Meet at least twice per month with assigned OSP counselor.
  • Attend a minimum of two evening workshops or lectures sponsored by OSP
  • Submit FAFSA to counselor by the deadline of March 15.
  • Read OSP newsletter regularly.
  • Probation students must participate in the probation workshops during the semester that they are on probation.

Third-Year Students

  • Participate in the Academic Skills V & VI for probation and re-admit students, if necessary.
  • Meet same requirements as second-year students, PLUS
  • Complete Senior Year Evaluation for Office of Academic & Student Affairs.
  • Complete OSP Pre-Graduation form.
  • Consider participating in the Yale SURF Summer Program.
  • Submit FAFSA to counselor by March 15.
  • Meet at least twice per month with assigned OSP Counselor.


Fourth & Fifth-Year Students

  • Consider participating in the Yale SURF Summer Program.
  • Meet same requirements as second-year students.
  • Consider participating in the Yale PREP Academic Year Program (this program is open to Rutgers University graduates)
