ACADEMIC AIMS
The aim of the academic component is to assess student's academic and non-academic strengths. We administer a series of diagnostic inventoiries, and program faculty also report their classroom observations. The component seeks to prepare students to cope with the realities of a competitive college environment by encouraging students to participate in a goal-directed EOF learning community as they undertake a rigorous summer course load. Courses include:
- Global Warming
- Mathematics
- English
- Critical Thinking
- Science (TBA)
- Academic Skills
Students must earn a "B" or better in both Math and English workshops in order to successfully complete the Summer Institute. Those students who are not successful will be assisted with enrolling at their local community colleges.
Upon satisfactory completion of the Summer Institute, students earn 3.0 degree credits and are enrolled in the appropriate courses for the fall semester.
Additional information is available on Program Methodology and Assessment.
