The Office of Special Programs (OSP) at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences works to ease students' transition from New Jersey high schools to Rutgers University by providing a first year experience focused on asessing and developing students' academic and personal skills. The first phase is the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Summer Institute, a six-week residential program for entering first-year students that is designed to improve retention and graduation rates by:

  • orienting students to available programs and services;
  • assessing students' academic needs;
  • preparing students academically and socially for college life;
  • assisting students in identifying their first-year goals and major programs of study; and
  • encouraging students to explore post-baccalaureate career paths.

The Summer Institute is free to admitted students who qualify for EOF. (See EOF Program Eligibility). The program has two basic components: academic and residence life.

PLEASE NOTE: The Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences EOF students will be housed on the G.H. Cook Campus during the Summer Institute program. As a continuation of the Summer Institute, all Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences EOF students participating in the campus residential program will be required to continue their housing assignment through their sophmore year.

ELIGIBILITY/ATTENDANCE

All students admitted as EOF students to the Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences are required to participate in the Summer Institute and to earn a "B" or better in both Math and English workshops. The Office of Special Programs will rescind the University admission of any student who fails to meet these requirements.
