Information for Incoming International Students

Welcome to Rutgers and the School of Environmental Sciences. We are committed to providing accessible opportunities for all incoming students to complete their enrollment processes. Rutgers placement testing and advising can be completed online prior to Rutgers' International Student Orientation in late August. Complete the steps below before the end of June to be prepared for the fall semester:

1. Rutgers NetID and Email

All Rutgers students are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID, comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g., jqs23). Please activate your Rutgers NetID and Rutgers email accounts at netid.rutgers.edu/activateNetId.htm. The NetID and the password you set will be used for most web-based services at Rutgers.

2. Rutgers Placement Testing

First-year students must complete the online placement testing in English and math.

Placement tests are available online beginning on March 1. The tests must be completed by June 1. A desktop or laptop computer with reliable internet access is required for testing. Additional information about Placement Test is available at oirap.rutgers.edu/testplace.html. NetID and password required. This is not a test that you either pass or fail. It is simply a way to determine which Math and English classes you will take in your first semester. You can only take the English test once. You are allowed to take the Math Placement test twice.

3. Academic Planning and Advising (APA)

SEBS Academic Advisors will assist you with reviewing the requirements for your degree and selecting your first-semester classes. To schedule your APA Day, complete the SEBS Class of 2027 Academic Planning and Advising Course online in the Canvas Learning Platform. In the course you will see a Pre-Registration Information Form. Please complete and select the June 27 International Advising Session. It will be held Tuesday, June 27 at 7 a.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

4. Rutgers International Student Orientation

The Center for Global Services will run an orientation program for new international students in August. Please register for this event on your Rutgers Enrollment Pathway. Further information on the program, including how to reserve temporary orientation housing, will be provided with the Form I-20 sent by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Please make every effort to submit all Covid vaccine and immunization records, as well as complete placement testing, advising, and the APA process before arriving at Rutgers. If you cannot complete your testing because of connectivity issues in your home country, or you experience other technical problems, please email testingandplacement@rutgers.edu.
