Rutgers-New Brunswick Pre-College Credit Waiver Policy 

Some students may find that courses that yielded college credit but taken during high school (e.g., AP, IB, dual-enrollment courses) did not provide the same foundational knowledge that is available through an introductory-level university course. Some students may, after consultation with an adviser, decide to waive the credits earned to enable them to register for the introductory course in a particular academic discipline. A student's decision to waive credits for a particular course must be put in writing to their First Year Advising Office no later than the end of add/drop in the first semester of the student’s enrollment at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. The decision to waive credits is irrevocable; once a student has waived pre-college credits, they cannot be reinstated on their record.

• Once a letter grade (A, B+, B, C+, C, D, F) has been recorded for a course at Rutgers-New Brunswick for which a student has pre-college credit, the Rutgers University-New Brunswick course grade will be E-prefixed, and the college credit earned prior to enrollment will remain on the Rutgers transcript.
• Students who earn an Associate’s Degree cannot amend their acceptance of the credits and retain the full credits or benefits of the NJ Statewide Transfer Agreement.
• Courses appearing on a student’s Rutgers transcript but taken during high school, including those taken from the School of Health Professions, will be J-prefixed, meaning students will receive the credit, but the grade will not be included in the calculation of the student’s cumulative GPA.  The J-prefix cannot be removed for these courses.

If you wish to deny any pre-college credits, you must email first_year@sebs.rutgers.edu with your full name, RUID number, which credits you wish to deny, and an explanation of why. You will then be sent a DocuSign to officially deny the credits.
