Rutgers First-Year Student Testing

Placement Testing Information

Note: You should make every effort to complete the placement test(s) as early as possible. Delaying testing could adversely affect your schedule, as you cannot attend SEBS Academic Planning & Advising Day or selected fall courses until scores have been processed.

Note: No calculators are permitted in the math placement exam. Be prepared to answer math problems in computational skills, algebra 1 & 2, and precalculus. Placement tests cannot be retaken.

Preparing for your Rutgers Placement Tests

In preparation for the math test, we encourage you to review the math you have studied in high school (basic math, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Precalculus). You can also link to course information and syllabi on the math department website. To be placed into Precalculus in your first term at Rutgers, you must demonstrate competence in basic math and Algebra I and II. To be placed into Calculus, you must demonstrate competence in all four areas, including Precalculus.
