Academic Mentoring (11:015:112)
The Academic Mentoring course introduces first-generation SEBS students to the academic and bureaucratic complexity of university life. This course supports new students' transition to college by engaging them in learning about the processes by which individuals learn in college and, ultimately, achieve academic success in a small class setting. This is a one-credit graded course (A, B+, B, C+, C, D, F), taught in small discussion/seminar format. Students are graded on assignments and class participation.
Learning Goals
- To understand the academic, mentoring, support services, and extracurricular aspects of Rutgers–SEBS.
- To understand the individual's learning style and identify and develop appropriate learning strategies and study skills.
- To develop holistic wellness practices, including time management, organizational skills, and stress management strategies.
- To develop a 2-year academic plan to prepare for major declaration and understand graduation requirements.
