Office of Faculty Development & Workplace Culture
The SEBS/NJAES Office of Faculty Development and Workplace Culture is committed to supporting an inclusive and positive environment for faculty and their associated communities at Rutgers. Fundamental to this work is our ongoing commitment to support respect, dignity, equity, and belonging as core values in our work, interactions, and planning. Central to our ability to function as a community of learning and research is practicing respect for each other, developing a culture of belonging, and ensuring a commitment to each individual's dignity.
This work of this office extends from goals set forward in the Rutgers University-New Brunswick's Diversity Strategic Plan to create, support, and gauge our performance towards justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for all faculty, staff, and students. This is achieved through recruiting and retaining a community of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds to bring multiple perspectives and experiences to our community; supporting an inclusive community wherein every member has a full sense of belonging and dignity; and reducing barriers and instilling equitable principles to educational and career success.
The Associate Dean of Faculty Development and Workplace Culture is committed to assuring new faculty mentoring programs and resources that provide the tools needed to support successful scholarship, teaching, service, and community engagement leading to promotion. This goal is achieved through strengthening departmental mentoring, facilitating faculty networking, and developing programs to share relevant information and resources. These efforts include the New Faculty Seminar Series, standard practices for department mentoring committees, and more!
To build a sense of belonging and dignity, the Office of Faculty Development and Workplace Culture will provide a space and a community where all are welcome and can build dignified relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators across campus and our local community. Understanding the influences of workplace culture and improving our work environment is necessary to create a sense of belonging and community. This office uses surveys within SEBS/NJAES and the broader Rutgers community to assess areas of need and provide the tools for cultural support and information to campus and department leaders.
The Associate Dean works with the SEBS Committee for Access and Opportunity, whose members include faculty, staff, and students, to support our efforts to improve workplace culture, faculty and staff success, and student success and belonging.
