Academic Support

The key to success in college courses is not just memorizing and regurgitating information, but in fully mastering ideas and concepts. Most majors require course sequences that build on early concepts; thus, it is critical that a student have a strong foundation in early coursework to be able to perform well in their upper-level classes. Consequently, SEBS students are encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of academic support services that are available on campus.

Academic Success Calendar

Organizational and study skills are critical to student success from Day One at SEBS. The Academic Success Calendar is filled with dates, deadlines, and helpful reminders about important milestones in your academic journey. Use the calendar to track your progress from the First-Year Induction Ceremony to Graduation.

Academic Mentoring (11:015:112)

The Academic Mentoring course introduces first-generation SEBS students to the academic and bureaucratic complexity of university life. This course supports new students' transition to college by engaging them in learning about the processes by which individuals learn in college and, ultimately, achieve academic success in a small class setting. This is a one-credit graded course (A, B+, B, C+, C, D, F), taught in small discussion/seminar format. Students are graded on assignments and class participation.

Learning Goals

  1. To understand the academic, mentoring, support services, and extracurricular aspects of Rutgers–SEBS.
  2. To understand the individual's learning style and identify and develop appropriate learning strategies and study skills.
  3. To develop holistic wellness practices, including time management, organizational skills, and stress management strategies.
  4. To develop a 2-year academic plan to prepare for major declaration and understand graduation requirements.
